A new Wilko store is set to open its doors for the first time in Denton next week.

The value home and garden retailers recently signed a lease for a new store at the Crown Point North Retail Park which is due to open next Wednesday (January 25).

The new 11,500 sq. ft store will generate more than 25 jobs within the local area, with a number of residents already expressing their interest.

Meanwhile, the existing Wilko store on Market Street in Hyde will close next Tuesday (January 24).

As a result, Wilko will have three stores in Tameside – with shops already based in the Arcades Shopping Centre in Ashton and Droylsden Shopping Centre.

And Robin Lassiter, Wilko’s Retail Director, explained why the high street chain has decided to develop their presence in the borough.

He said: “The retail park has a strong retail offering but we’ve spotted a gap in the market for our range of great quality products at everyday low prices from Wilko.

“The retail park has a diverse range of shoppers, including new homeowners and young families, and I’m confident we’ll reflect this with our product range and store layout.

“January is a time for new beginnings and we’re looking forward to helping our customers get set up for the year ahead.

“The retail park attracts a high number of shoppers from the surrounding areas, making it a prime location for us to open in, and we’re really excited to serve local shoppers when we open in January.

“After a hugely successful 2016 for the brand, we have an exciting expansion programme in place which will see us open more stores across the whole of the UK in 2017.”

Founded in 1930 as Wilkinson Stores, the family-run business is one of the UK’s largest retailers and the new Denton store will be their 398th in the UK.
