Glossop Senior Colts 14-5 Ashton Colts

Ashton were on the back foot throughout the first half of this local Derby, an early try from Glossop as No 8 Jordan Marshall picked from the base of a 5m scrum and sped over for a try converted by Whiston for 7-0.

Glossop finished off the half with a try from a driving maul well taken in the corner and excellently converted by Whiston for a 14-0 half time lead.

Not for the first time this season Ashton improved second half putting together some quality fazes of play thwarted by a strong defence on a small pitch.

Ashton’s pressure on the home line eventually paid dividends as David Shaw cleverly span out of contact popping to Joe Worthington who fed Niall Metcalfe to finish strongly in the in corner unconverted.

Ashton pressed for the remainder of the half with player of the match Niall Metcalfe and Conan Bligh putting in surging runs, the home defence stood firm and saw the game out to take the bragging rights and equalising with one win apiece this season , the decider to be held at Ashton on February 12th.
