The Bloods unbeaten start to 2017 continued on Saturday with the team scoring four goals for the second consecutive game in the league, defeating bottom of the table Burscough.

Two second half goals from substitute Tom Peers in the last ten minutes sealed the victory which pushes the Bloods up to 11th in the table.

Droylsden had the best of the early action, keeper Ritchie Mottram denying Liam Caddick and Steve Hall in the opening minutes but the visitors should have taken the lead on twenty minutes, awarded a clear penalty as Samuels mistimed a tackle in the area.

James Coates though guessing the right way and saving skipper Phil Bannister’s spot kick.

Six minutes before half time, the deadlock was broken, a great ball through the centre of the defense was taken on the chest of Steve Hall, who controlled it to fire home, which on the balance of play was fully deserved.

However it could have easily been all square, two minutes later, a great save from James Coates denying Callum Mahoney.

The visitors looked the stronger side on the resumption and were level ten minutes into the section no half when the Bloods defense failed to clear to allow Reece McNally to score.

However it was short lived, Burscough giving away a free kick just outside the area, almost from kick off, and Luke Daly setting up skipper Domaine Rouse whose low shot crept inside the post.

Both teams had chances to score, Steve Hall’s header as he found himself unmarked from a Daly free kick was tipped ove the bar by Mottram while at the other end Coates repeated the save of his opposite number, tipping Holmes’s header from a free kick over the bar.

Man of the match Hall had further chances for the home team, but the introduction of Tom Peers put the game out of reach of the visitors.

A great ball down the right putting the striker in the clear and clinically finishing with nine minutes left on the clock to make it 3-1 and four minutes later the same player put the result in no doubt scoring from almost the same spot after being set up by Jamie Frost
