Residents across Tameside are being urged to take advantage of a money-saving boiler and insulation offer.
Supported by Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service and the NHS, the Greater Manchester Energy Heroes scheme offers qualifying households free or discounted new boilers and home insulation that could save hundreds of pounds from fuel bills.
The 10 Greater Manchester local authorities have joined forces with energy supplier E.ON to run the scheme, which it is estimated could help more than 30,000 homes in Greater Manchester struggling to keep warm and pay their fuel bills this winter.
The offer has now been extended until March 31, 2017.
Both home owners and private tenants who are on a low income are encouraged to book a free home survey to see if you qualify for free or subsidised works and call by February 3 to see if you are eligible to have a new efficient boiler installed by the end of March.
So far, over 500 people have requested help through the scheme.
It is estimated households can save £350 a year by having a new boiler fitted, £70 by insulating the loft and £290 through cavity wall insulation.
Cllr Barrie Holland, Tameside Council’s Carbon and Waste Reduction Panel, said: “It’s great news that this offer – which is designed to help the most vulnerable households – has been extended but people must act quickly to take advantage of it.
“Home insulation and an energy efficient boiler can help to reduce fuel bills while also having a positive impact on health.”
