A man is fighting for his life in hospital after being involved in a collision in Ashton last weekend.

The 66-year-old was crossing the road along Park Parade in the town when he and a black BMW 5 series collided last Sunday evening (January 15) at around 8:05pm.

Emergency services raced to the scene and the man was taken to hospital, where he remains in a life threatening condition, with injuries to his head and pelvis.

Police have launched an investigation and are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has a dashcam fitted in their vehicles to come forward.

Police Constable Paul Hailwood, of GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “We are still establishing the exact circumstances of the collision and we are keen to speak to any witnesses.

“Our thoughts are with the man’s family at this time and we are offering them the support of specially trained officers.

“I’m asking anyone who saw the man crossing the road prior to the collision or anyone who saw the black BMW 5 Series estate car in the area at the time of the collision to get in touch.

“I’m also asking anyone with dashcam footage to come forward.”
