Youngsters got in the swim to help raise a grand sum for Reuben’s Retreat in Glossop.

Babies and children from Puddle Ducks Greater Manchester, who swim at Aqua Nurture in Gee Cross, had fun swimming in their pyjamas to raise more than £1,000 for the local charity which provides bereavement support and counselling for families who have lost their children.

Every autumn, swim school Puddle Ducks hold a week long Charity Pyjama event where children raise money by attending lessons dressed in their pyjamas, teaching them valuable water safety and survival skills.

Reuben’s Retreat is a charity created by the family of Reuben Graham, a little boy who lost his battle with cancer in 2012.

The organisation owns a retreat in Glossop to help relieve the distress of families who have suffered the bereavement of a child or have a child suffering from a life limiting illness.

Suzanne Horton, from Puddle Ducks, said: “As you can imagine, this is a charity very close to our hearts. We were delighted to fundraise for Reuben’s Retreat, caring for children and their families helping them in what can be very difficult circumstances.

“Our Charity PJ Week is a great way of teaching our children important lifesaving skills in a fun and relaxed environment, whilst raising money for a great cause.

“We had a fabulous time and would like to give a great big thank you to all of our customers and their little Puddle Ducks, as well as Sally-Anne Jones, Support and Breaks Manager at Reuben’s Retreat for joining us and helping us to raise such a fantastic amount.”

Puddle Ducks provides swimming programmes for birth to 10-year-olds.

Taught by experts, they focus on teaching independent swimming in a nurturing environment with individually tailored activities to suit all abilities.

Classes take place across Greater Manchester.
