A woman was robbed in a car park in the Newton area of Hyde earlier this week.

At around 10am on Monday (November 28), a 48-year-old woman was on the car park at the back of the Cheshire Cheese pub on Ashton Road, when a man approached her from behind and grabbed her handbag.

The woman started to pull the bag back but the offender told her to “watch the blade” and the woman, fearing for her safety, let go and the man fled with the bag.

The offender is described as white, about 6ft tall, had a gaunt face and spoke with a local accent. He was wearing a navy blue hooded top that was grey on the lower half.

Detective Constable Darren Byrne, of GMP’s Tameside Borough, said: “The man made a threat to the woman, suggesting he had a knife. Although she woman didn’t see a knife, she was terrified to be targeted in this way.

“If you saw what happened or have any information about the incident, get in touch with police as a matter of urgency.”
