A sport coaching student from Tameside College has been selected to become a young coach for the Volleyball England National Talent Camp.

Usama Muhammad, from Hyde, was encouraged by college staff to apply for the coaching role due to his passion for sport.

Usama was successful in securing the position with Volleyball England, following support from the college’s sport and enrichment officer.

Usama also gives up his free time on a Thursday to teach other Tameside College students Volleyball as part of enrichment activities for students. After completing his college course, Usama is hoping to progress onto university.

Luke Podmore, sport and enrichment manager at Tameside College, said: “Usama is a fantastic student who wants to get the most out of his time at college. It’s no surprise that he has been selected for the Volleyball England National Talent Camp as a young coach.

“Having taught him for the whole of last year, Usama is just as good in the classroom being ahead with all of his work. You know he is going to do well.

“I think it is a fantastic opportunity to go to the talent camp but to also be able to tell universities and employers that he was selected will go a long way in seeking employment when the time comes.”
