Advice for Tameside residents over Christmas period

Tameside residents are being advised on where to get help and information on local services over the Christmas period.

The Tameside Council website is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, for people to access council services and information.

Customer services centres, libraries and the call centre will close on Friday, December 23, as normal and will re-open on Tuesday, January 3, 2017, at the normal operating hours for each site.

Portland Basin Museum and Central Art Gallery will close at 4pm on Friday, December 23, and normal opening hours will resume from Tuesday, January 3, 2017.

To contact the Council in an emergency, call 0161 342 2222 but residents are reminded that this number is to be used for emergencies only.

From a health point of view, anyone who starts to feel poorly – even with just a cough or a cold – can get help from a pharmacist.

Pharmacists are skilled healthcare professionals and appointments aren’t necessary.

A list of Christmas and New Year opening times for pharmacies can be found here.

If you do need quick medical help for a non-life threatening situation, or you’re not sure of the best place to receive advice and treatment, you can call NHS 111 where an adviser will assess you and direct you to the best place.

Residents are reminded that A&E is only for serious and life-threatening injuries and illnesses. In a life-threatening emergency, always call 999.

In the event of a white Christmas, there’s useful information and guidance on snow and adverse weather conditions on the following Council webpages: Be prepared for Winter, Tameside Winter Pledge and Winter gritting.

The Council also wish everyone a safe and happy Christmas and all the best for 2017!
