Two crashes took place on Mottram Road in Stalybridge this morning (Wednesday) as rush-hour traffic caused chaos on the roads.

Police were first called at 7:50am to a road traffic collision involving three vehicles, close to Woodend Lane, one of which was a silver BMW.

Another vehicle blocked the road – leading to major queues in both directions for early-morning commuters.

Meanwhile, half an hour later, around 100 yards down the road, there was another crash involving a red Honda motorcycle and a grey Ford Focus.

The motorcyclist was taken to Tameside Hospital but is not thought to have suffered serious injuries.

Both incidents caused severe delays along Back Moor and Mottram Road, with temporary traffic lights also in operation close to Roe Cross as maintenance work continues.

Elsewhere, the M67 was closed in both directions eastbound between Junctions 3 and 4 after a woman fell from a motorway bridge.
