A Hyde drumming group is celebrating its third birthday and is looking for new members from across the borough.

The group ‘Bloco Mente’ plays a range of samba and rhythms from around the world.

The sounds are energising and inspirational to people of different ages, backgrounds and abilities while improving co-ordination.

You do not need to be able to read music or own your own instrument to join this already 20-strong group that meets on Wednesday evenings in Hyde.

Drums, bells and shakers are provided and members are able to pick up easy to learn rhythms in just one session.

The group’s chair Vicky Jeffers said: “We set out to make a community group that would make a really big noise in the borough, reaching our third birthday is a major milestone and we’re thrilled to be celebrating it.

“We’re all fans of the sound that Bloco Mente is making but we really want to welcome new members to keep the group going long term.”

New members can try their first session free of charge with further sessions costing £5 a week, along with children under 16 attending free of charge with a full paying adult.

Bloco Mente meets every Wednesday, 7-9pm at the Grafton Centre, Grafton Street, Hyde, SK14 2AX.
