Remembrance services taking place in Tameside

Thousands of people are expected to turn out across Tameside to mark Remembrance Sunday this weekend.

Our local communities will be holding services and ceremonies to remember those who fought for our freedom during the two World Wars and more recent conflicts.

There will be acts of remembrance, wreath-laying and parades as well as a period of silence across Glossop and Tameside.

Cllr Philip Fitzpatrick, the Civic Mayor of Tameside, said: “On Remembrance Sunday, we have the opportunity to remember those who fought for our freedom during the two world wars. We also mourn and honour those who have lost their lives in more recent conflicts.

“Today, with our forces still serving around the world, remembrance events are as important as ever and I urge residents to attend the special ceremonies across our borough and to pay their respects to our brave servicemen and women both past and present.”
