Mottram Bypass has my full support, says MP Andy Burnham
Tuesday 22nd November 2016 @ 15:31 by Adam Higgins

Manchester Mayoral candidate Andy Burnham has said the go-ahead for the Mottram Bypass would have his full support if he became Mayor of Manchester.

The MP for Leigh said “It’s very important not just for Tameside but for all of Greater Manchester, why? Because it’s the main route from the Sheffield area. It’s the gateway for most people – I’ve been stuck in the traffic there many a time.

“A bypass here would have my full support, as I realise how important it is here.”

Burnham has regularly preached in his Mayoral campaign his desire of introducing a ‘new way of politics’ and his commitment to getting communities involved in decision making – and the much long awaited plans for the bypass will be amongst Burnham’s first issues to tackle

Planning for the Mottram Bypass was approved by the Highways Agency back on 2 December 2014 – however, despite the intervention of many MP’s to push it forward, the government have still not committed to a start date.
