By Shaun Bishop:

Celtic were their own worst enemy as they gifted neighbours FC United all three points with some generosity that would be more suited for Christmas day. Celtic took the lead in the game after 13 minutes when a long thrown was flicked on by Chippendale and found the far corner. The first Celtic gift came seconds later. Full back Morton attempted to head clear when under no pressure but he misjudged it awfully and headed straight to Jerome Wright who left Shenton with no chance as he stroked the ball home.

Celtic’s head were gone. Morton again at fault as Wright whizzed past him far too easily and put in a cross for Gilchrist to finish unchallenged. Celtic were rattled. Just past the half hour mark the visitors had a third goal. A long throw into the box caused havoc as Celtic couldn’t get their heads on it, Kieran Glynn was on hand to poke the ball home.

A horror show of a half from Celtic. Managers Paul Phillips and Steve Halford must have had some rockets left over from bonfire night as Celtic came out a changed side in the second half. Celtic pressing the FC United defence from the off. Seven minutes in and a superb Mather cross was met by the head of Summerskill and hit the back of the net.

Celtic were rampant now and it looked like they would equilise at any moment. Then massively against the run of play FC bagged their fourth goal. A corner was swung in and Gilchrist headed home. A goal that completely took the wind out of Celtic’s sails and sealed the game in favour of the visitors. Wilkins came on for Celtic and added some pace to the attack as Celtic pushed for goals. It wasn’t to be however. A crushing defeat for Celtic. Horrendous errors cost them and there will need to be plenty of attention to detail paid on the training ground if the troubled side are to come close to getting out of the bottom three.
