Traffic chaos returned to the region this morning with the closure of the M67 after a young woman was found to have fallen from a bridge traversing the route in Hyde.

Traffic chaos returned to the region this morning with the closure of the M67, after a young woman was found to have fallen from a bridge traversing the route in Hyde.

A young woman reported to be in her 20s has died following a fall from a motor-way bridge over the M67 in Hyde.

The incident which happened just after 7.00am this morning (2nd November) closed the route in both directions for 2 hours.

The North West Ambulance Service  said:”They were called at 7.13 am to reports that a female in her 20s had fallen from a bridge in Hyde. onto the motorway below”

The NWAS arrived at the scene with an ambulance and a responder vehicle to treat the  woman, who has since sadly died from her injuries subsequent to the fall.

Police say they arrived at the scene around 8.00 am and closed the road in both directions, police confirmed the woman has died.

It is not believed at this stage that any vehicle was involved in the incident.

Tameside Highways say that the motorway is now reopened in both easterly and westerly directions.

There have been at least two other deaths involving falls onto the M67 in the last five years.
