Heavy rain and winds set to hit Greater Manchester

Heavy rain and gusts of wind up to 50mph look set to hit Derbyshire and Greater Manchester on Monday.

A Yellow Weather Warning – the least severe – for rain has been issued by the Met Office for the region.

It’s in place from 12pm on Monday until 6am on Tuesday morning and follows snow and icy conditions on Friday, which caused chaos on the roads.

Heavy and persistent downpours are expected, which may cause disruption to public transport and motorists as well as lead to localised flooding for some areas.

Around 2-3cm of rain could fall in around six hours, forecasters warn.

A Met Office spokesperson said: “A broad area of heavy, persistent rain will move northwards, reaching the extreme northeast of England later on Monday.”
