An enthralling contest ended with Zak being crowned as the new 60kg Northern Belt holder.

The momentous 24 hours was described by head coach Ian Harrison as ‘truly fantastic’.

Reflecting on the fights, Ian told Reporter Sport: “I’m delighted that all three of the lads have had their hard work and endeavour rewarded with brilliant victories.

“Brad boxed really well against his opponent, continuously jabbing and constantly moving throughout the duration of the fight.

“Kane took on a tough opponent in Terence Wilkinson but held his own to earn victory.

“It was a brilliant contest from both elite boxers who showed great potential and lots of technical skills throughout.”

Commenting on Miller’s performance, he said: “Zak boxed brilliantly on the evening and both competitors showed great respect for each other.

“It was a long way to travel but more than worth it, especially with a crowd who made the atmosphere electric!”

Gardner is back in action on Sunday at the North West region NABCGC Championship Finals.

The title holder will be joined by fellow Droylsden boxers Ged Shaw and Jay Cornforth.
