Pupils at St John Fisher in Haughton Green were given a morning to remember after celebrated author Megan Rix visited their school.

The spellbound youngsters were given an insight into her stories and how her own research into the Great Fire of London helped her write her book The Great Fire Dogs.

Staff and pupils got into the spirit by dressing up in costumes while Megan brought her own dogs, who have helped inspire her books.

During the morning the children held workshops with the acclaimed writer before she signed copies.

Events like these are a real inspiration for the children, but Megan admitted she also draws on the ideas from the pupils.

“This school has been amazing. At the end of the session I was asking for story ideas and I got so many lovely ideas from the children,” said Megan.

The visit was part of a ten school tour and something that the author loves to do.

She said: “It’s fantastic coming out and meeting the children because they’re so enthusiastic and such funny little stories. And it’s also really nice to meet your audience.”
