Holidaymaker Caroline Campbell has won a £2,500 pay out after her honeymoon trip to Egypt was ruined by illness.

Newlyweds Caroline and Aaron had jetted off for a seven-night stay at the five star Siva Sharm Resort and Spa.

But Caroline fell ill on just the second day, suffering excruciating stomach cramps and nausea.

She suffered from illness throughout the honeymoon, her condition made all the more precarious as she was in the early stages of pregnancy.

Upon her return Caroline, a teacher from Stalybridge, continued to suffer and had to take time off work to recover.

“It was by far the worst holiday I’ve ever had,” she said.

“I cried, on more than one occasion, whilst we were away because I just wanted to go home.

“I completely regret booking the holiday. I feel like we paid out all that money on something that was supposed to be our chance to make memories to last a lifetime, but the majority of memories I came back with were bad ones.”

Caroline believed her illness was the result of poor hygiene at the resort and being served uncovered cold and lukewarm food that appeared to be repeated from one meal to the next.

She also claimed that several of her fellow holidaymakers suffered from similar symptoms.

Following her ruined honeymoon in August 2014, Caroline decided to pursue legal action and appointed Anne Thomson, head of travel law at Your Holiday Claims.

Anne represented the couple’s case for compensation on a no win, no fee basis and has now secured £2,545 in a successful holiday illness in Egypt claim.

Anne said: “I am delighted to have helped.”
