Former Stalybridge Celtic player- manager, Keith Briggs, has been confirmed as Southport’s assistant manager.

Briggs joins the Sandgrounders having been part of the Sheffield United Academy for the past year.

The former Celtic captain will be reunited with former boss Steve Burr who managed Celtic from 2007-2010.

Burr was confirmed as Southport’s new manager last month following the dismissal of Andy Bishop, who has since joined Hyde United in the Evo-Stik first division north.

As well as Burr, Briggs will be working alongside another former Celtic boss in Liam Watson.

Watson, 44, stepped down from his role at Bower Fold earlier this season and subsequently joined Southport as one of three new directors.

Earlier today, Southport tweeted: “Steve Burr has brought in Keith Briggs, his former captain at Staybridge Celtic and Kidderminster Harriers, as his new assistant manager.

“Briggs was involved in his first training session alongside Burr this morning as the squad prepare for Saturday’s match against Chester.”
