Denton West Cricket Club held their annual awards ceremony at the Premier Lounge, Audenshaw, last Friday evening.

A healthy turnout provided players and officials with an opportunity to reflect on a memorable first season in the Greater Manchester Premier Division.

West’s first team finished the inaugural season in fifth spot, having won eight, drawn seven and lost seven matches.

The squad did, however, win the Lancashire Knockout Cup for the second time in 40 years, after beating Farnworth by four wickets in a nail biting final at Middleton CC in September.

As well as the distribution of trophies, the awards ceremony provided an opportunity for club officials to announce signings for the 2017 season.

Lynks Estates will return as the main club sponsor, while Somila Seyibokwe will also return as the overseas amateur.

Hamish Dunlop and Steve Oddy – who picked up the 1st XI Bowling Award – have also committed for the 2017 season.

As far as other awards go, Luke Kilburn picked up two trophies on the evening.

The youngster received the Brian Statham Junior Award, as well as the 3rd XI Batting Award.

Ian McAllister received the 3rd XI Bowling Award.

Ben Lowndes also took centre stage on the evening, picking up the 2nd XI Batting and 2nd XI Bowling trophies.

Leighton Darby collected the Phil Jackson Award for most promising junior, while Aaron Wood picked up the Paul Gledson Junior Award.

Liam Kilburn claimed the Peter Swailes Memorial Trophy for match winning performances.

Mike Berry took the 1st XI Batting Award, while George Wood collected the Peter Barry Junior Award.

The second team were also acknowledged for winning the Per-Fit Windows GMCL Cup.
