Stalybridge Celtic have announced the signing of the vastly experienced goalkeeper, Grant Shenton.

Shenton joins the club from Ashton United, having signed for the Robins over summer.

He did, however, fail to make a competitive league appearance for Ashton after suffering an arm break in a pre-season friendly against Curzon Ashton.

Shenton is one of five players to have made the switch from Hurst Cross to Bower Fold to rejoin former managers Paul Phillips and Steve Halford.

The managerial duo took control of Celtic in September, following Liam Watson’s departure.

Other players to have made the switch include Jay Gorton, Danny Wilkins, Adam Mather and Garry Gee.

Celtic are currently struggling in the National League North, having collected just six points in their opening 15 league fixtures.

The squad have a hugely important clash against bottom club Bradford Park Avenue on Saturday.

Such is the importance of the trip, Celtic have offered free coach travel to those wishing to make the journey.
