Police have moved to reassure the local community today after it was revealed the body of a burnt man, discovered in a lay-by outside Tintwistle, is missing its head and limbs.

Police released the grim new evidence at a press conference earlier this afternoon.

They revealed the body was also discovered near a suitcase, although the suitcase has not been forensically linked with the body at this stage.

However, it too was burnt and found close by the charred remains of the body.

The police assumption is that the victim was transported to the site off the A628, north of the Valehouse and Rhodeswood reservoirs, inside the case.

Forensic investigations however are continuing.

Police also believe the body was dumped at the site between 9pm and midnight on Sunday, when a fire at the scene was reported.

At this stage all that is known about the victim is that he was a white or light skinned male under the age of 50.

Police are convinced that the victim’s body was taken to the scene and the man had already been killed at another location and are therefore reassuring residents locally.

It is not known what accelerant was used to start the fire and charred grass can still be seen at the scene.

CCTV is also being investigated but anyone with information that can help police is asked to contact Derbyshire police on 101 quoting incident 58 of October 11.
