Stalybridge Celtic have bolstered their defence after announcing the signing of youngster Sam Tattum.

A local lad from Worsley, the defender was one of five players released by Manchester City this summer – a club he signed for at the age of eleven.

Although a right back by trade, Tattum can sometimes fill in at left back, being quite versatile with both feet.

His attributes include great anticipation and smart tackling, making life difficult for opposition forwards.

He signed his first professional contract in June 2015, and played several games for City’s Elite Development Squad last season.

That came on the back of an excellent season in 2014-15 when nobody started as many U18’s games in the entire league. That was after his first season in the U18’s was disrupted by serious injury.

He goes straight into Celtic’s squad for their FA Cup third qualifying round game away at FC Halifax Town on Saturday.
