Stalybridge Celtic have added a further three players ahead of their FA Cup clash away at FC Halifax Town tomorrow (Saturday).

Moving to Bower Fold are midfielders Darren McKnight and Brian Summerskill as well as defender Keil O’Brien.

O’Brien, 24, joins Celtic on a three-month loan deal from National League side Southport, where he has yet to make an appearance this season.

Although his football career began at Old Trafford, he has spent all of his time in the non-league, playing for Northwich Victoria, Chorley and also had a short spell at Tameside rivals Mossley.

McKnight – a Northern-Irish U21 international, has been without a club since being released by Morecambe in May, and has previously played for Barnsley – where he signed his first professional contract – and Shrewsbury.

Midfielder Summerskill has signed from Glossop North End, where he has scored one goal in eight appearances for Chris Wilcock’s side this season.

Like O’Brien, he took in Northwich Victoria, where he is regarded as a stalwart. He is well-known to several clubs in the area, having also played for neighbours Droylsden, after he had played at Altrincham. He has also had a loan spell at Nantwich Town.

All three are available for the struggling Bridge’s crucial FA Cup third qualifying round trip to fellow National League side Halifax Town, where a win would put the Blues one round away from a possible game against Football League sides.

It completes a busy week of transfers for Stalybridge, after they signed former Manchester City defender Sam Tattum yesterday.
