Glossop men’s A team are celebrating their promotion to Division 1 of the South West Manchester Tennis League. They came second by just one point to Urmston B in the fight for the top spot in Division 2. Fallowfield were the form team but they fell away badly during the summer break. Next season will be their first foray into the top flight and they are looking forward to playing at this level. The team gained promotion largely due their impressive 100% home record, winning all six matches at Pyegrove as well as two away fixtures.

Glossop men’s B team also had a successful season in Division 5 of the same league, winning six of their twelve matches, losing four and drawing two. The team had a chance of getting promoted up until the last match of the season, finally finishing just outside of the top two promotion places. The performance was particularly good given that it was only the second season that the club has entered a second men’s team, giving the opportunity to fifteen club members to experience league tennis, enjoying matches played in a good sporting spirit.

Glossop ladies team finished in fourth place in Division 1 of the SW Manchester League, winning five of their twelve matches, including wins against the two top teams in the division. The matches were all very competitive and close, with four ending in draws. The team was drawn from a very small pool of ladies, with selection being made more difficult by two severe injuries during the season and another close to the end.

The mixed team played in the Moor Lea Cup and played extremely well to reach the semi-finals, losing to a very talented Manchester City team. The cup matches consist of men’s singles, ladies singles, men’s doubles, ladies doubles & mixed doubles, making a very enjoyable change to the ladies and men’s doubles that are played throughout the summer.
The club is holding two open evenings from 7-8pm on Wednesday September 21st and Thursday September 29th where anyone of any level can try out the new courts and just need to turn up on the evening.
