Students at Ashton Sixth Form College celebrated another outstanding day of results today as students finally received their grades from examinations taken in summer 2016.

Recently appointed Principal, Anton McGrath, said: “Each and every one of the students receiving their examination results should be proud of their achievements.

“They have worked incredibly hard during their time at Ashton Sixth Form College, ably supported by their teachers, senior tutors and all other members of staff at the college to achieve their ambitions and progress onto the next stage of their lives, whether moving to university, joining an apprenticeship programme or entering the world of work.

“They are the latest in a long list of success from the college and we all wish them well in their futures.”

The college, which was awarded a good rating by Ofsted in April this year, has produced some of the best results in many years, with success at A Level, AS level and the BTEC programmes.

At A level, the pass rate is an impressive 99 per cent with high grades in line with previous years’ achievements and almost three quarters of students achieving grade A*-C. The percentage of A*-B grades at AS Level increased by five per cent and almost 60 per cent of students achieved a grade C or above.

The pass rate at AS also improved to 90.1 per cent, in line with the national average.

Mr McGrath said: “The AS results are particularly pleasing in light of the recent reforms to these qualifications which were taught and examined for the first time this year.”

Once again, there was considerable success in the BTEC qualifications, with a 100 per cent pass rate in BTEC Extended Diplomas and a further increase in the number of high grades achieved by students in all BTEC programmes reaching an impressive 90 per cent.
