Stalybridge Celtic striker Darius Osei has joined League One outfit Oldham Athletic on a one-year contract for an undisclosed fee.

The youngster progressed through the Celtic Academy before forging his way into the first team squad.

Having impressed on the pitch in the National League North, Osei was loaned to Barnsley for a period last season. The Tykes subsequently won promotion to the Championship.

A keen eye for goal, Osei notched four times in a Manchester Senior Cup victory against Abbey Hey.

Upon announcing the signing, Celtic manager Liam Watson said: “Darius is a credit to himself and a great advert for what we’re trying to achieve here. I think he has huge potential to carve a great career in the professional game. We will miss him but we can’t stand in his way”

Club Chairman Rob Gorski added: “I’m absolutely delighted for Darius. He has been a joy to work with and he’s a great advert for our Academy system. We think that Oldham will be a great fit for him as he develops the potential that he undoubtedly has and I’m sure that he will prove to be a great asset to them. I wish him all the luck in the world as he pursues his dreams”

Osei has been selected for Oldham’s pre-season game against Grimsby today.
