Retired local businessman Kevin Maddox is Hyde Rotary Club’s new president.

He accepted his chain of office from former president Barry Carey at a celebration dinner at Hyde’s Oaklands Hall.

Kevin has been a Rotarian for 14 years and it is the second time he has had the honour of being president of the club.

The last time he was in the role was in 2008-09.

“Over the last two years Rotary has evolved,” he said.

“The formation of the Rotary Club of Tameside and associated membership I really feel is going to take the movement forward.

“At the end of the day we are the backbone of the community.

“This year I have a very strong team of committee chairs who will be supporting me and a very strong deputy.”

He also pointed to the fact that both he and present Mayor of Tameside, Cllr Philip Fitzpatrick, had served together in Round Table.

“I sincerely hope we can make this year a year to remember
together for the proud borough of Hyde,” he said.

His nominated charity for the year is Macmillan.

The Mayor congratulated Kevin and said he looked forward to working with him in their respective  new roles.
