Teenager Kiera Brown has braved a head shave to raise vital funds for charity.

Kiera’s mum Michelle explained the motivation behind the head shave.

“Exactly 12 months after the sad loss of a dear family friend ‘Isobel’ who at 34, lost her brave fight against Bowel Cancer, her passing hit both my girls Kiera and Faye pretty hard,” she said.

After a great deal of thought, Kiera at only 13-years-old, was determined to do something in Isobel’s honour and finally decided to create a fundraising campaign as a tribute to her.

She came up with the selfless sacrifice of parting with her beautifully styled long hair and donating the proceeds to charity.

The family thought it was a great idea and immediately set up a ‘Just-Giving’ page where Kiera started getting sponsorship from friends and family, with the aim of donating the proceeds to Bowel Cancer UK.

So, on July 17, the anniversary of Isobel’s passing, it was decided to hold a Charity Fun Day where brave Kiera had her head shaved in front of everyone.

To date, Kiera’s Just-giving page so far has raised £835 and on the day of the ‘head shave, £465 was raised at the fun day which was held at the George and Dragon in Hyde.

Michelle Brown said: “It’s such a great thing to do – especially for a young teenager of 13. To do this in Isobel’s memory is amazing.”
