This is the horrific picture of a 65-year-old Ashton mother after she was brutally attacked in her home.

Two men in balaclavas smashed their way into the property on Neal Avenue between 12:40am and 2:40am yesterday morning (July 19th) and battered Barbara Dransfield with metal bars.

They demanded money from Barbara and ransacked her home but fled the scene empty-handed.

The callous attacked has left Barbara, who as an amputee relies on a wheelchair, with terrible injuries including a fractured skull, multiple facial injuries and a fractured arm. She is currently recovering at North Manchester General Hospital.

Detective Inspector David Loughlin, of GMP’s Tameside borough, said: “This was a vile attack on a vulnerable woman who was alone at home.

“She has been left in hospital being treated for some nasty injuries which could have been even worse.”

Anyone with information about the attack is asked to call police on 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
