Stalybridge Celtic Chairman Rob Gorski has made the following announcement on the club’s official forum.

Within the statement, Gorski reveals two new signings and offers his thoughts on the forthcoming season.

“Although neither of these is officially confirmed (due to rubber stamping FA international clearance), we feel confident enough to announce that we welcome back Kristian Platt to the club and we also introduce Henoc Mukendi. Both will play against Barnsley at the weekend, so it’s best to announce their signatures now – albeit slightly prematurely.

“Kristian needs no introduction really. Having played 132 games for us (scoring 12 goals), Kristian moved on to Telford where he played Conference Premier football. Kristian is nowadays more of a holding midfield player but is experienced and versatile enough to play many roles. He also still packs a serious punch in those free kicks!

“Henoc is from the D.R. Congo and spent his youth at Liverpool F.C. culminating in them giving Henoc a 2 year professional contract playing for their U18s and reserves. He then spent some time on loan at Northampton Town before returning to the North West. He is a fast 6’5” winger who we hope will be a big hit with the fans.

“Our first pre-season game is obviously on Saturday against Championship side Barnsley. They are bringing their first team squad and we hope that it will be a good exercise for the lads and Liam. The gaffer has certainly been working them all hard in training and he tells me that pretty much, to a man, they have come back fit, lean and raring to go.

“The league this year is the hardest that we have ever been in, in my humble opinion. Several ex-league clubs and newer clubs coming through with – frankly – stupid budgets. But despite a really tough opening set of fixtures ahead of us, I’m excited to see how the players perform. We had a number of lads, like Danny Wisdom, who experienced 6th tier football for the first time last season and we not only hope, but expect, that they will all benefit enormously from that and kick on this season.

“I’m happy to report that Darius is back to full fitness and he and Adam Farrell have been leading the pack in training. Having Darius back is like a brand new signing for us and we hope that some stellar performances this season will put him back in the shop window. Certainly his attitude and character deserve that.

“Liam will have a “Meet the Manager” evening before the start of the season where everyone can come along and ask any questions. We will announce when the date has been confirmed.

“Apart from the exceptionally disappointing (and frankly embarrassing) Mossley cup final and despite some comments on here, I think that this time last year, if someone would have said would you take mid table, 1st round of the FA Cup and win a trophy, we’d have all jumped at that opportunity. Pretty much all of us. The Mossley debacle took the shine off what was – relative to the past few seasons – a really solid performance and improvement. The key now is to cut out the inconsistency and those heavy defeats, and kick on. No one at Stalybridge Celtic is predicting that we are going to win the league by 23 points. It will be a really competitive league this year with at least half the teams thinking that they have a chance of making the playoffs, but we are most definitely not thinking that we are there to make up the numbers either! Liam has won 4 league titles and is ambitious and positive.

“So, a new season is nearly upon us. Welcome to the Fold Henoc and welcome back Kristian. We sincerely hope that you have successful times ahead!”

Celtic have been handed an opening day fixture at Boston United on Saturday 6 August.

Watson’s side welcome Stockport County to Bower Fold on Tuesday 9 August.

The eagerly awaited derbies against Curzon Ashton will take place on Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.
