Students and staff at Denton Community College have teamed up to collect donations to help the homeless.

The items – including biscuits, crisps, tins, Pot Noodles, toiletries and clothing – have all been donated to the group ‘Feed Manchester’.

In all, the school collected several large boxes and bags to donate.

The collection was organised by teaching assistant Melissa Housley.

She explained: “It’s important to involve the students in community work and help them gain an understanding of how we can all come together to help people who are less fortunate.”

Feed Manchester’s volunteers carry out regular food runs around the city centre to support the homeless.

They give out up to 125 hot meals a night as well as snacks, drinks and other helpful items.

Founder Matthew Campbell said: “It works so well because, as a group, as a team, as individuals there is one agenda – raising awareness, taking action to reduce poverty and improving human life.”
