Charlesworth finally get replacement postbox
Friday 22nd July 2016 @ 09:49 by Adam Higgins

A village has finally got a replacement postbox after the original was stolen.

But locals, who heaved a sigh of relief when they saw Royal Mail fitting it on Charlesworth’s Long Lane, were disappointed when they went to post a letter.

The slot had been sealed!

Parish councillor Anne Worrall said: “The box disappeared mysteriously earlier in the year. It looked as though it had been stolen.

“Someone mentioned they were selling for a good price on the internet and that they were popular in USA.”

The former borough councillor went on: “It reappeared about three weeks later, but after a few days, the opening had been blocked off and you couldn’t post anything. I reported it to the parish council, as no notice had been given of any intention to remove the box, nor any consultation regarding it.”

A Royal Mail spokesperson told the Chronicle: “We can confirm that a postbox in Long Lane was stolen recently.

“We apologise to customers for any inconvenience and we urge anyone with any information to contact the police.”

Royal Mail are hoping the new box will ready for use in the next few days.
