MOSSLEY Cycle Racing Team are calling on more riders to sign up for their race day, held in memory of two young members who lost their lives last year.

The event – which they hope will become an annual occurrence – is taking place on Sunday, July 3, at the Tameside Cycle Circuit on Richmond Street in Ashton.

There are a number of categories for both boys and girls to enter, with the winner of the Under 14 boys race receiving the Iestyn Keir Memorial Trophy.

The winner of the Women’s Only race will be presented with the Kirsty Saunders Memorial Trophy.

Iestyn, a huge lover of all forms of cycling, passed away suddenly soon after his 12th birthday and was a popular rider at Mossley CRT.

Kirsty, 16, was an active member and BC Young Volunteer for both Mossley CRT and Dowson School Go Ride Clubs before losing her battle with leukaemia.

All proceeds are going to Manchester Children’s Hospital Ward 84 and Child Death Helpline – two good causes chosen by Kirsty and Iestyn’s families.

All winners will receive a medal and there will be other prizes to be determined on the day, while Tameside Radio will also be broadcasting live at the event.

Competitors can sign in from 8:45am and warm up on the track from 9am before the races begin at 10am.

Organiser Martin Williamson, of Mossley CRT, said: “We hope that everyone racing on this special occasion will recall their own special Kirsty or Iestyn moment and continue to support and encourage young riders as they did.”

To sign up, you can enter via the British Cycling website under the events heading or at the venue on the day.
