Ranger reaches the top in stag do fundraiser
Thursday 9th June 2016 @ 11:42 by Adam Higgins

A Lyme Park ranger who underwent the ‘Three Peaks Challenge’ for his stag do last weekend has raised hundreds of pounds for a local charity.

Dan Pilkington climbed England’s Scafell Pike, Snowdon in Wales and Scotland’s Ben Nevis with six of his close family and friends – and they all managed to do it in under 24 hours!

In doing so, the 26-year-old has helped raise over £600 for Mellor Country House near his hometown Marple, which provides respite breaks for children, parents and groups – a cause that Dan’s mum has been supporting for two decades.

And he is hoping for more donations to come in from sponsorship and his JustGiving page at

Dan said: “A couple of us completed the challenge in 22 hours and 15 minutes, and a couple in 23 hours and 22 minutes which was fantastic!

“I was so proud of everyone who took part with me. The weather was great which really helped and my dad and future father-in-law Giles got us quickly and safely to each mountain in the minibus.”

Although Dan is not getting married to fiancé Hannah Burton – his partner of 11 years – until August 5, he arranged to do the challenge six weeks early for logistical reasons.

He added: “We decided to do it now because it was the last bank holiday before the wedding when everyone could get up to do it and give everyone time to recover! I’m glad we did as the weather was great on every mountain.”
