The Stalybridge Carnival celebrates its 40th anniversary this year – an achievement its small team of dedicated volunteers are proud of.

Every year it has donated money to local good causes, made up of the proceeds from the street collection on Carnival Day and surplus money it manages to generate.

The event has grown during the past three years.

Working with the Stalybridge Town Team and the Huddersfield Canal Society, it now spans a full weekend.

On Saturday, June 25, there will be many events planned for Stalybridge Town Centre, including a shop window dressing competition for local traders, plus stalls and entertainment in Armentieres Square.

There will be live music, a classic vehicle display and free canal boat trips throughout the day.

Sunday, June 26, is the traditional Carnival Day, with the colourful parade through the town starting at 1pm.

From 12 noon in Cheetham Park there is a full funfair, trade and charity stalls plus live music and entertainment.

In Armentieres Square there will be a handmade craft fair, plus another chance to take a free canal boat trip.

Local groups and organisations are encouraged to take part and support the event.
