Glossop electrician set to retire after 25 years
Monday 23rd May 2016 @ 14:12 by Adam Higgins

Richard Malkin’s work has taken him into more churches than almost anyone.

But the soon to be 65- year-old isn’t a priest – he’s en electrician!

The owner of Malkin Electrical and his team carry out all kinds of electrical work.

The work includes making buildings warmer and lighter for congregations just by lowering light fittings which hang yards over their heads and boosting the heating.

Richard, who’s business operates from Victoria Street, said: “I must have done work in most of Glossop’s churches.”

But the work will soon come to an end because Richard, who started the company in 1991 by working from home, is retiring and unless someone comes along to take over, it could close.

Richard plans to spend his retirement seeing more of his family and pursuing his love of sub-aqua which has seen him swimming in a variety of countries, lakes and seas.

Richard admits that retirement has brought mixed emotions, he will miss the work and the many customers he calls friends and they will miss him.

Richard even has a pin board on the wall of his office peppered with letters of appreciation from people he has done work for.
