Former West Hill School pupil, Rob Holding, made his debut for the England Under 21 squad last night during their 7-1 victory over Guinea.

The impressive win marked England’s second victory in two fixtures at the Toulon Tournament.

Holding, 20, is currently contracted to League One outfit Bolton Wanderers.

The defender began his career with Wanderers at the age of seven, progressing through the youth ranks at the club and joined League Two Bury on loan in March 2015.

Holding made his professional debut on 3 April 2015 in a 2-0 win against Cambridge United.

Born in Tameside, Holding made his debut for Wanderers on 11 August 2015 in a 1-0 League Cup defeat to Burton Albion.

Holding took to Twitter following last night’s victory. He said: “Thanks for all the messages, proud to make my full England Under 21’s debut, keep the momentum going into our last two group games.”

England are back in action on Wednesday and Friday against Paraguay under 23’s and Japan Under 23’s respectively.
