Willow Wood Trio Saddle Up For Bike Ride Challenge
Thursday 14th April 2016 @ 15:17 by Tom Greggan

Three hospice doctors are going that extra mile this weekend when they take on the gruelling Willow Wood Hospice Big Bike Ride.

Hospice Medical Director Dr Mike Tapley and hospice Doctors, Dr Ana Cardoso and Dr Kirsten Davies, will be joining over 100 hundred cyclists to raise vital funds for the Ashton-based hospice.

Dr Tapley said: “It’s going to be tough but I think that raising money for the Hospice will spur me on. It’s one of the biggest challenges I will have ever undertaken, but I’m really looking forward to it.

“It’s wonderful to be joined by so many other cyclists who are giving their time and energy to help the local people of Tameside and Glossop.”

Dr Cardoso said: “Although I regard myself as a keen cyclist the Big Bike Ride is going to be a real challenge, but one I am looking forward to completing.

“The one thing which I’m sure will keep me going is the knowledge that our patients will benefit from my aches and pains.”

Dr Tapley continued: “I originally signed up for the ride for a bit of fun and to challenge myself, but then I thought it would be a great opportunity to raise money for the hospice.

“Our work at the hospice is so important and I know that the monies raised by everyone, not just me, will really make a big difference.”

John Fellowes, Head of Fundraising / PR for the hospice said: “It’s a wonderful turn out and we are so grateful to everyone who is taking part.

“The Big Bike Ride routes take the cyclists through Ashton, Droylsden, Mossley, Scouthead, Delph, Grains Bar, Royton, Shaw and Oldham and I hope as many people will come out and cheer everyone on.”

He added: “Events like this just don’t happen overnight and I would like to thank the representatives of the British Cycling Association whose help has been invaluable, Raynet communications, Mediskills and all of the volunteer marshals, both in the ride and out on the course – we couldn’t have done it without them.”

Finally John added: “Unfortunately we are unable to register participants on the day, so anyone wanting to take part must contact the fundraising Team on (0161) 330 7788) in advance.”
