Excitement is steadily building ahead of Glossop North End’s play-off semi-final at Northwich Victoria this evening.

The Evo-Stik First Division North clash will mark the third time the clubs have met in the space of a week.

In the previous two occasions, Glossop edged their way to a 1-0 victory last Wednesday, but then lost 2-0 on Saturday.

The game has all the ingredients to be a cracker tonight, as both sides have scored 180 goals between them this season.

Glossop’s Jamie Rainford has notched 29 times making him the second highest scorer in the league, whilst Richard Bennett has claimed 21 for Northwich.

Despite being league newcomers this season, Glossop have adapted extremely well to the step up in quality.

As well as clinching the league title last year, the Hillmen won the Men United Cup.

Chris Wilcock’ side also appeared in the FA Vase Final at Wembley Stadium, although the club did fall to a 2-1 defeat against North Shields.

All things considered, it’s not beyond the realms of possibility that Glossop could secure back-to-back promotions by Saturday.

However, a tough test awaits them this evening.

Kick-Off at Wincham Park is 7.45pm.
