Firefighters were still at the scene this morning following a huge blaze across 15 acres of moorland in Saddleworth last night.

Local fire crews from Stalybridge and Hyde were among crews from across Oldham and Greater Manchester called to the blaze above Dovestone Reservoir in Greenfield.

The fire is thought to have started at around 8pm on land near to an access road just above the reservoir.

Smoke from the fire drifted towards Greenfield and Mossley and even as far as Ashton.

Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue service currently have ten fire appliances at the scene, as well as the specialist support unit from Hyde, and assistance from the police.

Strong winds made tackling the overnight fire more difficult.

Local farmers have also been helping at the scene along with wildlife officers.
