Ashton played their Alan James Trophy Semi Final on Sunday in front of another big crowd on a sunny morning ideal for rugby.

Tarleton took the lead with a early penalty, but Ashton hit back quickly as Lewis Walker Ward went on another storming run feeding Joe Worthington for a great try in the corner for a 5-3 lead.

Ashton began to go through their practiced phases of play and pressured Tarletons line with quick ball to the backs allowing Jack Woodward to power over for a try converted by Alex Meredtith for a 12-3 lead, which was pegged back by a Tarleton try just before half time for 12-10 lead at the break.

The second half was a tight nervy affair again dominated by the referees whistle, and opportunities were missed by the home side that they were to rue as with 12 minutes to go Tarleton got a converted try for the match winning lead of 17-12, despite Ashton pressuring their line right up to the final whistle.

Onwards and upwards for the Colts who need to rally themselves for next Sundays League Cup semi Final at home to Sefton 12.30 pm kick off, all supporters welcome free admittance.
