Ashton Junior Colts 29-12 Sefton Junior Colts

Ashton entertained their League B opposition for the first time this season as both league games had fallen foul of the weather. The Colts finally got to play on the first team pitch , but it was Sefton who took advantage of the extra space first for a try in the first 3 minutes unconverted.

Ashton were under more pressure and it took a little bit of magic from Callum Bolton to unlock the Sefton defence for a fine try under the posts well converted by Alex Meredith into a stiff breeze for a 7-5 advantage.

The home sides confidence grew and a forage upfield lead to Curtis Wilmot charging over for a try in the corner unconverted. Just before the break Callum Boltons neat loop move foxed the defence and he sprinted for the line for a 17-5 half time advantage.

The second half saw Sefton come back strongly for a converted try and game on at 17-12.

Ashtons Coaching staff have been boosted by Neil Pearson and his work with the forwards was paying dividends as they pressured Sefton with well drilled breaks round the fringes, this combined with clever backs play saw Jack Woodward take an inside pass and storm over the line for a try again converted by Alex Meredith for 24-12 and some breathing space.

The match was rounded off with a fine jinking run by Joe Worthington which was stopped short of the line by excellent scrambling defence from Sefton only for the ball to be popped to Captain Wojtek Wojtczak who finished off in style for a final score of 29-12.

The result means Ashton have booked their place in the Plate Final against Hawcoat Park, which is taking place on Sunday, May 24 at Lymm RUFC.
