Council tax in Tameside will rise by 3.99% after the council approved two separate rises at the Full Council meeting on Tuesday night.

The council took the option of the 2% adult social care precept meaning money raised, which will amount to £1.429m in 2016/17, can only be spent on adult social services.

The council also raised tax by the maximum 1.99% allowed without holding a local referendum, which will raise a further £1.422m in tax which will go towards Tameside Council, Police and Fire Services.

The Conservative Group at the Council meeting offered an amendment to the proposal which would have meant only the social care precept was introduced and not the further 1.99% rise but they were massively outvoted.
