A pioneering initiative to drive down waiting times at Tameside Hospital’s A&E is underway.

It comes after figures revealed waiting times at Tameside Hospital A&E were the worst in the country last November.

Now, Tameside’s voluntary sector has teamed up with medical chiefs in a nationwide first to try and drive down those waiting times.

As part of the collaboration, the hospital’s information team firstly analysed a typical 36-hour weekend at A&E.

In the unique experiment and using that information, a team of volunteers from local charities representing CVAT (Community Voluntary Action Tameside) then worked with medical and support staff to discover how they can help reduce waiting times.

It is the first time a community anywhere in the UK has come together to work in this way.
