Bee Hives at the King George the fifth Playing Fields have been attacked by vandals.

It took place at around 6:25pm on Friday 29th January.

CCTV footage from the park shows two men approach the hives before one knocks the top off one of them.

Justice was swift however as the video shows one of the vandals being stung moments later.

Bee Keeper at the playing field Ian Screen said: “Luckily the night was not that cold and I think the bees will be ok, but we won’t be sure until the bees come out of hibernation.”

The hives are provided by ‘Friends of King George the fifth Playing Fields’. They started with just one hive three years ago but have now built up the colony to include 4 hives, as well as a special ‘observation’ hive in Georgie Porgie’s Café.

Any honey produced by the bees is filtered by the beekeepers and then sold in the café to raise money for the park.

Anyone with any information about the vandalism should contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
