Audenshaw 1st XV star, Patrick Anglin is set to make his professional rugby debut on Saturday afternoon for the Warrington Wolves against Huddersfield Giants.

Anglin signed for the club this week after a successful three month trial and will start at hooker for the Halliwell Jones Stadium based outfit who are coached by former Warrington and Cumbria County favourite, Gary Chambers.

Anglin could lay a realistic claim to being the most versatile player in Audenshaw Rugby history having started life as a prop forward for Mr Young’s U12 XV in 2011. He moved throughout the pack in subsequent years playing at hooker, flanker and number eight for Mr Wilkinson and Mr Brooks but really found his craft as a stand off for the U15’s in 2014/15.

Anglin was a member of the U14 team that reached the Lancashire Cup Final in March 2014 and he has been one of the most influential players of his team as well as for the 1st XV this year. Anglin was the first year 11 student to earn his 1st XV representative tie and played a decisive role in the Lancashire Plate Campaign, in which the U16 XV have reached the final.

His junior career has seen him represent a number of clubs in both codes of the game including Aldwinians RUFC, Broughton Park RUFC, Mancunians Rugby League and the famous Oldham St Anne’s Club that counts Gene Ormsby, Rubin Holland and Ellis Robson amongst its alumni. He also earned county honours with Lancashire Rugby Union and was wanted by Warrington’s Super League rivals, Salford Red Devils having trained with them on a number of occasions.

The Rugby Department would like to wish Patrick all the very best for what we hope will be a successful debut and a long and fruitful rugby career.
