Well known in Tameside footballing circles, Eric Webster passed away on Sunday.

Following a single league appearance for Manchester City he featured as a player in the 1950’s for Ashton United; Hyde United and Stalybridge.

Turning to management he then had spells at the helm at Hurst Cross, Ewen Fields and Bower Fold.

Probably his biggest achievement was acting as manager; coach and groundsman, (simultaneously!) at Stockport where he resurrected the career of Micky Quinn who went on to be a prolific goalscorer at the top level.

Quinn paid tribute earlier this week, “So sad my old Stockport Manager Eric Webster has passed away. He was my mentor, manager, groundsman, teaman and all round TOP MAN”
