A number of pupils from Tameside competed in the Greater Manchester School Games KS4 badminton tournament last week.

The boys event, which took place at the Sugden Sports Centre, Manchester, saw no less than 19 schools from across the region take part.

In group four, West Hill took the plaudits by placing first with a total of 150 points.

Copley Academy also progressed to the semi-final round after successfully winning group five with a point’s tally of 147 points.

However, despite looking to stake their claim in the competition final, both schools fell at the penultimate hurdle.

West Hill were beaten by St James Catholic High School, while Copley succumbed to defeat against Harper Green School.

St James were subsequently crowned kings of the tournament after beating Harper Green in the final.
